My time at The 16 Plus School has been incredibly impactful. From the very first day, I was welcomed into a community that truly cared about my academic success and personal growth. The environment at The 16 Plus School encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone, meet new people, and grow both intellectually and emotionally.

The staff were incredibly supportive throughout my time here. The teachers always took the time to ensure I understood and felt confident. I always felt comfortable asking questions, and I appreciated how approachable they were. They have shown me that learning can feel insightful rather than overwhelming.

Beyond the classroom, I enjoyed being part of a community that values discipline, faith, and mutual respect. The school’s structure, which

included daily prayers and regular assessments, helped me stay focused and grounded.

Looking back, I’m truly grateful for the time I spent here. The 16 Plus School has been a force that helped shape who I am today.

The Tales of an Academic Adventurer

I came to The 16 Plus School at a time when I was uncertain and nervous about my academic future. I had heard from friends who were already in the school that it was a great place with a strong work ethic. My first visit to the school premises was to make enquiries. My fears were eased when Mr. Akpan and Mr. Segun kindly answered my questions. However, one thing they said stood out to me — the statement, “It’s up to you.” It seemed to be a kind of slogan for the school, and even Father Vincent echoed a similar sentiment.

It wasn’t just the enquiries or the due diligence that my father and I did that

convinced me to join the school — it was that statement that ignited something within me. It made me realise that I was in control of my future. That simple phrase sparked a powerful consciousness in me: I controlled my destiny. This inspiration became a recurring motif throughout my time at The 16 Plus School.

I resumed school in late October and was behind in all my subjects. But I was determined to overcome these difficulties. In no time, I caught up, thanks to my dedicated teachers who took the time to explain complex concepts patiently, and to the friends I quickly made — a testament to the warm and friendly environment the school provides. This showed me how 16 Plus offers a supportive environment where hardworking students can sharpen and refine their skills.

In the last few months, I have been pushed far out of my comfort zone through rigorous monthly tests, class presentations, and extra lessons. None of these were easy, but at 16Plus, you learn that with belief in God, anything is possible.

Looking back, the boy who arrived anxious and uncertain is now confident in his abilities and fully understands that, truly, it’s up to him. As my time at The 16 Plus School draws to a close, I am deeply grateful to all the teachers for their labour of love, to the students for their friendship, and to the friends I’ve made along the way. The laughter, the lessons, and the memories have made 16Plus a splendid place to be.

As I move forward in my academic adventure, I do so with optimism, knowing I can face whatever challenges come my way. In the end, I can truly say that the best was brought out in me, just as promised.

Program: A-level Science

Coming to 16 Plus was a decision I don’t regret because it offered me a unique learning experience, one different from the traditional secondary school. Here, it offers a blend of secondary school with some level of independence, which is expected of you in the University. One where there was only a part that the classroom could offer you, and so much you could gain by personal study and research. A system that prepares you and gives you a smooth transition into the University. This approach pushes you beyond your limit, and the well-seasoned teaching staff were incredibly supportive. They made sacrifices I couldn’t understand just to make sure we all succeeded in our different programs. From having afterschool classes to online and weekend sessions as well, to even being ready to help us solve problems we are having difficulties with, and for all that, I will

continue to be thankful.

Besides this, they didn’t fail in allowing us to take part in extracurricular activities like basketball and football, organising community services often throughout the session and many more.

It hasn’t been an easy journey. These past months haven’t been easy, but they were worth it, and I don’t think I will trade them for anything. Outside the classroom, I formed valuable friendships that helped me through tough times. I’ve also grown personally—learning important lessons, improving my ability to think critically, stay focused for longer periods, and manage my relationships better. This makes me feel even more prepared for life at the University than I was after graduating from Secondary school.

I’m very grateful for my experience at the 16 Plus School. Completing the OSSD program here has been an incredibly rewarding journey, one that has provided me with not only a strong academic foundation but also countless life lessons and unique growth opportunities. From the very beginning, I was encouraged to think independently, push my limits, and explore subjects in a deeper and more meaningful way. The learning environment taught me a lot of discipline, resilience, perseverance, and endurance. I have learned how to withstand unfamiliar situations; therefore, I am confident that I can thrive in any environment I find myself in. A big thanks to all the staff who ensured my stay in 16 Plus was worthwhile, especially Matron, for constantly making sure that we’re always comfortable in the hostel.

One of the most impactful aspects of

my time here has been the unwavering support I received during the university application process. It was a stressful and uncertain period at times, but the guidance I received made all the difference. I’m especially grateful to Mr. Akpan, who was always available with advice, encouragement, and reassurance. His willingness to go the extra mile, whether it was reviewing application materials, answering last-minute questions, or simply offering words of motivation. I felt truly supported every step of the way. Additionally, Ms. Temi was an incredible source of support throughout my time here. Her guidance always came from a place of genuine care and love. Her thoughtful advice and willingness to listen provided the reassurance and clarity I needed during difficult moments.

Moreover, the consistent encouragement I received from my teachers across all my courses helped shape my academic journey. Their passion for teaching, patience, and belief in my potential gave me the motivation to stay focused and strive for excellence, even during challenging times. They not only helped me improve as a student but also inspired me to grow as a person. Through their support, I learned to persevere in the face of pressure, adapt to demanding circumstances, and build the resilience needed to overcome setbacks- lessons that will stay with me far beyond the classroom.

Looking back, I’m proud of everything I’ve accomplished during my time at this school. I’m very grateful to my parents, my friends and most importantly, God, for being my biggest support systems in this part of my journey. The experience has prepared me well for the future and given me memories and life lessons that I’ll never forget. Although I’ve had my ups and downs, I leave with a sense of gratitude and excitement for the next stage in my education, confident that I’m ready to take on new challenges and continue growing. And now, after all the hard work, long nights, and emotional rollercoasters, I couldn’t be more thrilled to finally close this chapter and step boldly into the next!

DONALD KELA-IKOKWU – OSSD

My name is Donald. I was a student in the OSSD program at The 16 Plus School. I joined the school in September 2024, and I stayed for 10 months.

During my time at the school, I learned a lot. One of the biggest things I gained was independence. I learned how to manage my time, study on my own, and take responsibility for my learning. The school really helped me become more confident in myself.

The teachers were always ready to help. I also liked that I could ask questions and get clear answers. The classes were not too crowded, so I had a chance to understand the subjects better. The teachers were kind, friendly, and always ready to explain things if I didn’t understand.

The work was sometimes hard, but that helped me learn how to stay focused.

We had regular tests and assignments, which pushed me to

keep studying and not give up.

The 16 Plus School also helped me grow as a person. I learned how to work with others, meet new people, and step out of my comfort zone. It wasn’t just about schoolwork — it was about becoming a better version of myself.

I’m really thankful for my time at The 16 Plus School. It was a special experience.

VICTOR GORDON UKPONG JNR – UK FOUNDATION

My experience at The 16 Plus School has been an impactful and unforgettable part of my academic journey. I joined the school to prepare for my UK foundation programme, and in just a short time, I’ve grown both academically and personally.

What stood out to me the most was the supportive and student-centred environment. The teachers were always ready to go the extra mile to make sure I understood each topic, especially in subjects like Mathematics and Research Skills, which are key parts of my foundation year. Whether it was during class or outside of it, I could always count on them for guidance and encouragement.

The school didn’t just focus on academics. Through daily morning devotions and the values shared with us, I was reminded of the importance of discipline,        responsibility, and integrity traits that will guide me not just in school, but in life.

I also appreciated the balance between structure and flexibility. While the workload was intense at times, the tests and assignments helped me stay consistent and focused. The small class sizes made it easier to interact with my teachers and get real-time feedback. I never felt lost in a crowd.

Outside of the classroom, I met people from different backgrounds, built friendships, and learned to step outside my comfort zone. These experiences helped me build confidence and prepare for university life in the UK.

Looking back, I can confidently say that The 16 Plus School played a huge role in preparing me for my next chapter. I’m truly grateful for everything I’ve learned and the amazing people I’ve met along the way.

What a time this has been—an exciting and transformative journey full of growth, challenges, and unforgettable experiences. It’s exposed me to amazing opportunities and lifechanging moments that have helped shape who I am today.

Beyond the academics, one of the most meaningful parts of this journey has been the friendships I’ve made. I’ve met incredible people who’ve had my back, lifted me up when I was down, and shared in the laughs, stress, and late-night study sessions. These connections have meant the world to me.

From tackling tricky subjects to discovering new passions, the support and dedication of the teachers—and the encouragement of my peers—have made all the difference. I’m so grateful for the guidance, kindness, and motivation that’s carried me through.

As I move on to the next chapter, I’ll carry the lessons, memories, and

friendships I’ve made here with me. This is one experience I will never forget.

OLUWATOBILOLA ADEDEJI – WASSCE

My name is Adedeji Oluwatobi, and I was a student in the WAEC class at The 16 Plus School. I spent approximately eight months at the school, and those months were truly transformative, both academically and personally.

One of the most outstanding qualities of The 16 Plus School is its commitment to holistic education. The school does not focus solely on academic excellence but also places a strong emphasis on moral development. Each day began with morning prayers and motivational messages, which helped to foster a great mindset and strong morals among the students.

Another aspect I greatly appreciated was the personalised attention given to students. Unlike many other institutions where large class sizes can limit interaction, The 16 Plus School provided a more intimate learning environment. This allowed me to

freely ask questions and gain a deeper understanding of subjects. The teachers were highly knowledgeable, approachable, and always willing to offer additional support whenever it was needed.

The academic curriculum was rigorous, but it encouraged consistency and discipline. With regular assessments, monthly tests, and assignments, I was motivated to stay committed to my studies and experienced notable academic growth.
